Hands on Electric Guitar Reviews:

by Rob Erwin

Fender® American Deluxe Stratocaster®

I now own one of the Fender American Deluxe Stratocasters.
I love it! It has the best feeling neck I have ever played. The Strat's modern C shape neck has hand-rolled edges to make it feel smooth and play fast. The inlayed dots on the neck are abalone, gives a unique look. The slick, smooth finish on the back of the neck is just the way I think all guitar necks should feel. This guitar is beautiful. The body finish is top notch and the craftsmanship is flawless.

All the pickups are "SCN" (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) pickups that have vintage Strat tones without the hum. There is a push-on, push-off switch built into the center of the volume knob called "S-1 Switching".
I like this feature a lot, you can get a more gritty range of tones with it. The hardware is all chrome, it has locking machine heads (tuning keys), a great feature that hold the strings solid, so there is no slipping or extra stretching of the strings. The bridge is a tremolo type, typical of the Strats.

The Stratocaster has a contoured solid body made from Alder, the perfect electric guitar that fits like a glove.
Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar Includes:
Fender hardshell case, cable, strap, polish cloth, straplocks, and a Meguiar's care kit.

My Strat arrived from Musician's Friend in perfect condition in less than a week from the time I ordered it. I had 45 days to decide if I wanted it or not. It took about 10 minutes to know that I will never get rid of this guitar!

The Gibson® Les Paul Standard

by Rob Erwin

The Les Paul Standard model started in 1958 to replace the the first solid body Les Paul Standard Goldtop model from Gibson. I like the LP Standard, not just because it is one of the legendary guitars of music history, and one of the two guitar designs I think are the most beautiful and playable ever made but, because it is so easy to play and sounds so sweet or brutal, depending on how you want it at the time.
The craftsmanship and finish is exactly what I expect from Gibson luthiers- perfect.

This is a heavy guitar for solid bodies. The solid mahogany body and neck are the main reasons for the weight. That is part of what gives the Les Paul its signature warm tone and singing sustain.
This solid body guitar is warm, thick and it can CRANK IT OUT! Depending on your style at the time, you can always change the pickups, or have them changed as many people do, to fit your taste.
The stock pickups are: 490R alnico magnet humbucker at the neck and a 498T alnico magnet humbucker at the bridge. They sound fantastic and are powerful. All chrome hardware, (last longer than gold). The neck is 1959 rounded LP neck shape with a bound rosewood fretboard. Very comfortable, full neck feel.

The LP is good for a range of styles from Rock, Blues, Metal, pyledriving, and even Country. Did I mention the LP is a gorgeous work of art. If you don't mind the weight, this guitar can be your best friend when in a jam!
